Cool Hand Luke.... Finishing Touches

So it's been a mad few weeks, I've taken my solo show - with help from my RSP boys Pauly B and Elliott Gregg - around the country (well a bit of it) and played some of the most fun and some of the most ridiculous (sometimes both at once) gigs of my life.

Our last gig of the tour, and year, was in Birmingham playing for our good friend Addis, and who should turn up but our biggest fan (sorry Mum) - Fred from Wisconsin in the GODDAMN US of A!

Then last weekend me and Pauly B plus our families went to the last night of the Cool Hand Luke show starring Marc Warren as Luke. It was a really faithful recreation of the book, and I loved it.

I also met John Simm from one of my all-time favourite TV shows The Lakes, plus his mate.

Seeing the show was a great way to draw a nice line under the Cool Hand Luke period in RSP's life. We will still play the songs amongst our set, but we're moving onto a new old soundtrack and the album will be out next year. I've demo'd all of the songs and all I can say is you'd like them. You really would.

See you in 2012.

UPDATE! Remaining 2011 shows.... new recordings.... etc

Hello!

I have a handful more solo shows this year in Richmond, Brighton, Camden, Portsmouth, Chichester and Birmingham. Come on down if you can, it has been most fun so far. Check out the live page for more details.

Also, I have now 95% written the new RSP record, and I'm very, very excited about getting it recorded asap. Hopefully a Summer 2011 release at the latest.

I'm also pleased to announce that we'll be working with Kiss My Face Music in 2012, which should see us play shows a bit further afield - watch this space. A-ha!

See you soon,
Kyle

PS... here's a little video our multi-talented drummer Elliott Gregg made about a recent mini-tour we did. Overpriced service station fry-ups, overpriced service station pens and racist dogs:

Xtra Mile - Fuck the Fire

Hey folks

You are probably aware that the PIAS warehouse recently burnt down, meaning that all your favourite indie labels lost quite literally a shed load of stock. Please help out our label Xtra Mile Recordings by bidding on their Pledge Music page - there are t-shirts, limited edition releases and tickets to a special London show to be had. I doubt we'll be playing the show, but it will be ace anyway. They are already past 50%, go bid!

ALSO, we recently had a track prominently featured on the new Xtra Mile compilation. It's about 3 quid and packed with good stuff, much as Mull Historical Society, who were my favourite band when I was 17. Go get it!

2000Trees... thank you! October/November tour booking

A HUGE thanks goes out from the 6 of us to everyone who came along to our 2000Trees set, we had a whale of a time during both of our sets, both plugged and otherwise.

I will hopefully see you somewhere in the UK in October/November.... plans are being formulated. We won't be gigging for a few months while personal lives take the front seat, but we'll see you soon.

Farm boys / boys on tour

MORNING! We're pleased to show off this video we recently made with Mr Ben Morse, it was much, much colder (and earlier) than it looks but great fun nonetheless.

Secondly.... I'm thinking of doing some shows in the autumn, possibly with RSP, possibly just me and my guitar. If you'd like to book me/us, or you know any venues I/we should swing by (smaller the better), drop me an email at retrospectivesoundtrackplayers at gmail dot com.

Thanks!

Some more live shots

Hey, here's a few sets of live shots from our recent London show with Messrs Franz Nicolay and Ben Marwood. See them here - thanks to Si and Sapphira. Here's a video of us playing a song. We only have a couple of shows left before the Summer :( but I'm working on some solo shows for the Autumn, keep them peeled.

More world shaking to do yet....

Hi folks,

It's been a while since there's been an update on here... firstly thank you to everyone who has bought our debut album or come to see us play live, we really do appreciate it. We're always adding new live shows to the schedule so keep an eye on the top of the page, and remember to check the 50 egg challenge page... maybe your picture is there? If you want to join that particular rogues' gallery all you have to do is come and see us play live some time.

Free single, live news

Hi folks,

We're pleased to announce that our new single, the snappily-titled 'Lucille and the Safety Pin / Standing in the Rain (Talking to No-one)' is now available as a free download.

All you have to do is email retrospectivesoundtrackplayers@gmail.com and you'll get it emailed back to you. If you feel like telling us your favourite film or book, or just divulging some spurious personal information, that would be lovely too.

We will also be getting out and playing some shows over the coming months. Why not come on down and have a go at the 50-egg challenge (more details of which over there on the right)? If we're not playing in your town but you'd like us to, get in touch, we'll see what we can arrange....

Oh, and if you haven't seen the film Cool Hand Luke (yet), there is a video guide over there on the right to give you an idea of what we're always banging on about.

Lots of Love,
RSP

Album news!

It's been a while since we posted but we've been getting a lot of loose ends tied up. I can finally announce with great joy and relief that Xtra Mile Recordings will be releasing our debut album, 'Cool Hand Luke' on April 4th.

Xtra Mile have released records from some of our very favourite acts, including Frank Turner (who we have all seen live countless times), Chris T-T (ditto for myself), Far and Jonah Matranga (Kelv's favourites and vocal hero respectively) and Reuben (Nelly's wife's all time favourite band).

So it's fair to say that we're very happy to be involved with them. There are a few measly live dates over there on the right, full album promo tour and more album details will be here soon.

Take care,
Kyle
