Putting Holden to bed.....

Hello! We haven't spoken in ages. How have you been?

It's about a year ago that we put out an entire album based on 'The Catcher in the Rye' and nobody has sued us (yet) which feels like something of a success. Next week we're going into the studio to record album 3, and we're predictably excited about it. We've had some ludicrously contrasting highs (playing main stage to packed crowd at 2000 trees festival) and lows (Nottingham - dissolving drum kit and a crowd of five) over the last year, but it's time now to put Holden Caulfield to bed. Good night, sweet prince. Obviously we'll play the songs again, but not as heavily as we have for the last year.

For now, you must own all our stuff, right? If not, catch up HERE.

Or maybe catch us in DEVIZES, READING, SOUTHAMPTON, MANCHESTER or PORTSMOUTH before the end of the year. Dates over there >>>>>>>>>

Love us,
RSP x

Onwards....

Hello folks,

I'm writing this with an acute case of the post-2000trees blues. We just got back from the best festival in the UK and we had possibly the best time ever. I have very many cherished memories from 'trees over the years, but this year might have pipped the lot. We played three sets in all, one in a secret area for our good friend Addis, one on the main stage (possible career high) and one at Camp Turner for some very excitable young FT fans. All were immeasurably fun and there is a picture from each below. If you cam to see us at one, or many of these, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WE LOVE YOU.

Next up for us is a slot at Wickham festival (just before DEXYS!!!) - if you'd like to come to that we can sort cheap day and weekend tickets, just email us. Then there's a big free gig in Southsea and an acoustic show in Bristol with our good friends Ben Marwood and Oxygen Thief. Hurrah! Hit the LIVE link over there >>>>>>> for more details.

Finally, I just finished a third bunch of songs but I'm 90% sure I'm going to bin them and do a different project instead. Either way, we have studio time booked in August, so expect new material sometime soon..... ish.

Lots of love,
Kyle

Summer here kids

Hey folks. Thanks so much for everyone who came to see us at our recent London double-header - two great London shows on consecutive days, what's going on?? Check that excellent shot above by our good chum Ben Morse - top guy. A couple of bits of info:

1) We have a handful of new shows announced - one in London with our good friend Ben Marwood (this will be a stripped down line-up), plus a full-band show in Manchester and a few fun Summer things. Check out the live page.

2) I have pretty much written a new thing. I don't know yet whether it's an EP, album or a quadruple concept album, but I think we'll probably record it in the Summer. It isn't Cool Runnings. Or Jurassic Park. Yet.

3) If you're just dying to hear more of my dulcet tones while you're waiting for our new stuff, perhaps check this pay-what-you-want album I made with my former band? Get it here.

That'll do for now. Look after yourselves.

xx

Cheers guys

Here's a nice picture from our NYE gig in Manchester which we like very much. Thanks to Scott M Salt for the photo. I wish I had a higher res version.

We're going away for a couple of months now to have a bit of a write and see our families. We will be back at the end of March with a couple of very exciting London shows which I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share yet. But try to be in London on Easter weekend if you can.

See you then,
RSP

The RSP squad rotation system

Firstly, a big thanks to everyone who has come out to see us on our 'Catcher' dates, there were certainly more ups than downs, which is always an achievement for us.

I wanted to explain our squad rotation system - I know it surprises and even amazes some people that we can play with a constantly changing line-up, but here's how it works....

Back: Pauly
Middle: Joel, Nelly, Elliott, Kelv
Front: Whynto, Kyle, Ochs

I write the music and then the 'original' line-up arranges the songs (Nelly, Paul, Ochs, Elliott, Kelv and I). Nelly produces the record at the studio now owned by Whynto (who also put a huge amount of time into editing and engineering the latest album.) Because RSP started as a side-project, many of the boys have other band commitments and some of them have young children, so we usually can't play with the whole 'original' line-up.

So, I'm the only band member who has done every RSP gig. If Ochs can't play bass then either Whynto or Joel can step in and do that. If Elliott can't drum then Whynto or Joel can step in and do that too (yes, they can both drum and bass the whole set - impressive!) If Nelly can't play guitar then Ochs moves up to guitar and somebody else steps in on bass (trivia: Ochs actually drummed on the recording of Real Cool Hand that was on the Frank Turner split 7".) There are other permutations but I'm sure you get the idea by now. Special mention also must go out to the 'one gig wonders' - Andi, who has drummed one set, and Jazzy Joe, who took on Pauly's trumpet/keys role for one gig. In vest, flip flops and pink shades.

It's not an ideal situation but I absolutely love it. We don't ever make any money from being a band, so this arrangement allows us to keep it going and still be able to fulfil live commitments. Plus, only a true fan can say that they've seen every single RSP member live - it's a bit like train spotting.

Before I go, two shows to tell you about: we are supporting our buddy Frank Turner in Manchester on New Year's Eve (alas, sold out) and on January 26th we are playing our 'Cool Hand Luke' album in full in Cambridge with accompanying visuals from the film. We can't wait.

Merry Christmas, here's to a happy 2013
Kyle
